Don't Miss the Central Valley of California
Easily a day trip from just about anywhere in California, the Central Valley region offers a completely different California than you'll see on the coast. Sights not-to-miss include wineries, the Sequoia National Forest and the many museums in the area. Here are a few of our recommendations:

Buena Vista Museum of Natural History
See fossils that were found right here in Bakersfield's foothills by professional and amateur archaeologists. There are also specimens from Africa, Asia and North America as well as rare Native American artifacts.

California Living Museum (Bakersfield Zoo)
Get a glimpse of native California wildlife at this well-designed animal park located on the Alfred Harrell Highway in Bakersfield. Exhibits featured include raptors, bears, and a complete desert habitat. Activities onsite include a children's park, a butterfly and hummingbird garden and a family events area.

Bakersfield Museum of Art
This museum houses a large permanent collection as well as temporary exhibits. There are always special events planned as well as classes and workshops for all ages.

William M Thomas Planetarium
Learn about the universe in this planetarium that's been bringing the night sky to audiences since 1962. The Chronos Star Projector and the SciDome make an unbelievably realistic show that educates and entertains audiences of all ages.
